Let?s meet a couple more of the trophy fish residents of Reindeer Lake and the surrounding waters!
One of the most gorgeous fish residing in our Arctic waters is the Arctic Grayling. Its distinct sail-like dorsal fin makes identifying the Arctic Grayling undeniable, and the unique variety of colors make each fish different in its own way. Though most Arctic Grayling are darker in color, many boast a range of colors and markings from reds, oranges, pinks, blues, and even metallic shades of gold and silver. Typically ranging from 12-16 inches in length and weigh roughly 3 pounds, these little beauties are found in a variety of sizes. They have been found at lengths up to 22 inches and can live up to 18 years of age. Trophy Arctic Grayling are available throughout Reindeer Lake and our surrounding waters and are a fantastic catch and release fish for endless fun on the water.
Another exciting catch and one of the best tasting freshwater fish is the Walleye. These athletic fish are native to most regions of Canada and the Northern United States and are a favorite catch amongst all levels of anglers. The majority of Walleye are olive and gold in color with little variation. With a large mouth housing sharp teeth, these fish are born predators and are often caught with a wide variety of lures and live bait that varies from season to season on effectiveness. Found at an average length is 20-25 inches with a weight of 3-6 pounds due to our cold waters; however, they have been found as large as 31 inches with weights of up to 20 pounds depending on the region. Known for their schooling habits and finicky eating, the best way to catch a Walleye is by finding areas with structural elements like rocks and cribs, and you will want to tease and entice them with your bait of choice for the best outcomes.
