Northern Pike, also known as pike fish or just pike, is a species of carnivorous freshwater fish. You can often find them in slower moving streams with cold and clear waters with rocky beds. Pike fish are typical ambush predators that will they wait for their prey for extended periods of time. Once an unsuspecting prey makes their way near the patient pike fish, it accelerates with remarkable agility due to their streamline bodies to strike. Our guides can help you learn how to catch a northern pike with techniques that entice pike fish the same as its prey. They are easily recognized by their olive green bodies with yellow and white shading on their underbellies; along with short light spots running along their flank. Reindeer Lake is especially ideal for northern pike fishing because our weedy shores, icy waters, and catch and release policies allow these monsters to live longer than in the waters to our south.
The Lake Trout isn’t a trout at all. In fact, it is actually the largest freshwater char recoded, and is native to North America. Here on Reindeer Lake we have an abundance of Trophy sized monsters roaming in it’s depths. Reindeer Lake is home to some of the largest Lake Trout in the world and thanks to its cold Canadian waters, it allows anglers to easily catch Lake Trout close to the surface most of the season. During the warmest time of the summer, they enjoy a deep water environment, then come back up to spawn in August to mid-September. An average catch will be 6 to 30 pounds but can get up to 60+ pounds, our lodge record of 73 pounds tells you we don’t mess around. The Lake Trout has a large forked tail and a thick strong body which gives them great power for a fight that will continue to peel your line off, be sure to wear your arms out, and give you an unbelievable memory that we are sure you will never forget.
