As expected, the Canada/US border closure has just been extended yet another 30 days. Since we’re getting lots of inquiries beyond our booked guests for 2021 in regard to the closure in search of an answer we thought we would share our thoughts.
It’s truly hard to believe that a year later we’re still locked down with restrictions here in Canada. Sadly, there is still no clear answer for us in regard to what international travel will look like this spring or summer but all signs are pointing to travel restrictions remaining in place until the spring at the earliest.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau waved away suggestions Monday that Canada is prepared to explore reopening its shared border with the United States any time soon.
“We’re all eager to be able to travel again,” Trudeau said.” But I think we’re all going to wait patiently until such time as the health situation allows us to loosen border restrictions internationally. That’ll be eventually, but not for today.“
Our government is rolling out vaccines at a very slow rate here in Canada. Our Prime Minister has made it clear he will not be opening up Canada to non-essential travel until cases are low around the world. The general public in Canada won’t have vaccine’s available until the summer and possibly into September. Canada has some of the strictest travel and quarantine rules in place until April 30th for anyone entering the country. It’s great news that all American’s who welcome the vaccine will be inoculated by May but Canada has a lot of catching up to do!
Should non-essential travel resume between our countries, we still don’t know what the requirements will be in order to enter Canada. We do believe the following may be mandatory:
This is just our best guess based on practices other countries have adapted in order to welcome tourists minus the vaccine requirement.
We will be opening on schedule for June 12th, 2021 with Canadian guests and ready to welcome our American friends with open arms in celebration once safe to do so. All signs are pointing to Canada and the USA sitting in a much better position by summer. But will it be good enough??
Arctic Lodges still has space in August 2021, and we are holding hope that we can see you then. With that said, we do still suggest that you book for the summer of 2022 as the border restrictions are still very unpredictable at this time.
Due to all the rollovers from 2020/2021, and the backlog of fisherman wanting to visit Canadian lodges, we’re already seeing a surge in reservations for the summer of 2022, so look into booking with us soon!
